Monthly Exchange

Hosted by the New Democracy Project – and co-sponsored by Alianza Dominicana, ACORN, Demos and The Nation Institute – the Monthly Exchange is a once-monthly networking and planning meeting with representatives of over 40 of New York City's leading progressive social service, public policy and advocacy organizations. Each breakfast meeting features a brief presentation by a prominent speaker, a question-and-answer period, and a discussion of strategy and tactics.  The spring 2003 series featured:

  • Eric Alterman, columnist, The Nation and MSNBC
  • Eli Pariser, founder, MoveOnPeace.org
  • Chellie Pingree, president, Common Cause
  • Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., chief prosecuting attorney, Riverkeeper
  • David Paterson, Minority Leader, New York State Senate

Guest speakers of the 2003-2004 winter series have thus far included the co-founder of the Innocence Project, Mr. Barry Scheck; actor and director of The Exonerated, Mr. Bob Balaban; Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and Director of The Gotham Center, Mike Wallace; and most recently, former Chief of Speechwriting for President Clinton, Michael Waldman.
